31 Days of Self Love - Day 3

What good habit do you want to begin this month? I've actually been working on a lot of things lately - improving my daily habits, not procrastinating about things, cleaning my home better than I used to, etc. This month, I am working a little bit more on my general health. I recently bought a Fitbit Alta, and I'm obsessed! As a default, it has my goal set to 10,000 steps per day, and I've been working really hard to hit that every day. I love that the app on my phone also lets me connect with friends who also have Fitbit, and we can challenge each other, or you can challenge yourself to hit step goals. To say I'm loving it would be an understatement. I have been able to challenge family and friends to contests to see who can get the most steps in - I'm proud to report that I have usually won these challenges, because I make myself get extra steps in if I see that someone is beating me. I come home to do laps around the basement. I walk up and down the hallway. I push the dogs to walk just a little big further when we go on our walks.

Once the weather clears, I am going to work on getting outside and walking more. I did join a gym near my work, and walking on a treadmill is fantastic - especially when I can adjust speeds and inclines as I go - but there's just something so much more fulfilling about walking outside. I live in a place that is BEAUTIFUL, even now with barren trees. I can't wait to soak this all in this Spring and summer. I can't wait to feel the sun on my face and the breeze through my hair as I challenge myself and push myself further than I did the day before. I feel like I missed out on so much, because I didn't start pushing myself to walk until last fall. I missed the beautiful, perfect Pocono weather. I missed enjoying my own neighborhood, as I was driving to state parks to get my walks in. On the first nice day we had last month, I took the dogs and walked around the area where I live, and now I'm kicking myself for not just walking around here in the fall. I live in a perfect area, and I can't wait to enjoy it. Get healthier AND enjoy nature? That's my good habit I'm going to work on.

...just as soon as these two feet of snow melt away, that is.
