Memorial Day & Tuesday goings ons

Yesterday (Memorial Day) I volunteered to help with a Memorial Day event that was being hosted at the store where I used to work. Partly because it was just a nice thing to do, and partly because I have to do one "diversity" event per year for my job, and this counted. Truth be told, there wasn't much to do, and the turnout wasn't great - I guess most people were home for the day, spending time with their families. It was a nice day, though. I spent a few hours getting to hang out and visit with people that I had worked with a few months back.

I also got to hear a dozen or so people tell me how good I looked, since I have been dropping weight since I left there (more tomorrow or the following day on all of that - look out for an enormous post on weight loss). It felt great to hear so many good things, and to know that my work has not been in vain.

After volunteering, Adele and I headed to Cracker Barrel for lunch, and I got to have one of my favorite meals  (buttermilk oven fried chicken breast - yum!). After lunch, we hit the Outlets in Queenstown, just to look around and browse. I wanted to find a new pair or two of work pants, since all of mine are too big at this point, but there weren't really any stores that I thought would be a good fit for what I needed. We did however hit Bath & Body Works, where I sadly bought nothing, because I still have so many of their products packed away and not even opened yet. I decided I didn't need anything else, though a few of their new scents did smell amazing. We hit Old Navy, and I decided to be brave and see if I could fit into an XL shirt. The first one I tried was a no-go. It was this cute button-up plaid top. Sadly, I've not lost weight in my flabby gross arms. The fit would have been great otherwise. Time to work on these arms, I guess! I did try on an XL short sleeve top though, and it fit. Or, I thought it fit anyway. I wasn't sure where Adele had gone to, so I asked the girl working the fitting room if it was a good fit, and she said it was. "You're sure? It's not too small, right?" She confirmed that it was the right size and fit me like it should. I seriously almost cried in the fitting room. I've been in an XXL as long as I can remember. To be in an XL feels like an enormous accomplishment. But again, more on that in a few days.

Today, the dogs and I went for a walk shortly after getting up for the day. We spent about an hour and a half walking around Martinak State Park. It's quickly becoming our favorite place to take walks!

Tonight's dinner was Chinese, though what Buzz and I really wanted was Sushi! We drove about forty-five minutes to check out this Sushi restaurant that had been recommended, only to find out that they close between 2:30 and 5:00 every day. We were there for a late lunch/early dinner, and had arrived around 3:00. We instead opted for a Chinese restaurant nearby, and I had some delicious chicken with broccoli and some wonton soup. Delicious.

Tomorrow is going to be crazy-busy. I have to take Buzz to two doctors appointments (I am telling you, the state should pay me to be his caregiver!). It may mean that he takes me out to lunch, though, and I can certainly deal with that!

Did anyone do anything fun for Memorial Day?

  1. There is nothing like being able to buy a smaller size in clothes. NOTHING. :-)
